Content strategy for marketers: reviews, comparisons and guides
Content is the fuel of affiliate marketing. No content - no traffic. No traffic - no sales. But not all content is created equal. Content that sells is content that solves a problem or answers a question - and within the answer, integrates a partner link in a natural way.
Three types of content that work in affiliate marketing
1. ๐ Product Review
An in-depth review of one product. The most converting type - because the reader is already interested in the product and is looking for opinions before the purchase.
Conversion overview structure:
- Title with product name + year - "Review of [product name] 2026 - worth the money?"
- executive summary - 2-3 sentences: who is it for, your grade, the link
- Who is the product suitable for (and who is not)
- advantages - 3-5 key points
- Disadvantages - Yes, disadvantages too! It builds trust
- Comparison with alternatives - "Compared to [competing product], the X is better because..."
- Summary + CTA - "If you are looking for... this is the product for you. [link to purchase]"
The most important thing in the review - be honest. If the product has a drawback, say so. Readers immediately sense when a review is "hidden advertising" and lose trust. An honest review that also points out shortcomings - converts better than a review that is only full of praise.
2. ๐ Comparison article (Comparison / "X vs Y")
Compare 2-5 similar products and help the reader choose. A format with excellent conversion rates - because the reader has already decided to buy, just doesn't know what.
Structure of a comparison essay:
- title - "The 5 best headphones up to 300$ (2026)"
- Comparison table - Price, main features, score, link
- A brief overview of each product - 3-5 sentences + link
- "Our Choice" - One clear leading recommendation
3. ๐ How-To Guide
Practical guides that solve a problem and combine product recommendations in a natural way.
- "How to build a perfect home workstation" โ Links to table, chair, screen, keyboard
- "The complete guide to caring for curly hair" โ Links to care products
- "How to start running - program for beginners" โ Links to running shoes, sports watch
The main principle: "Value first, sale second"
80% of your content should give real value - Information, tips, entertainment, inspiration. Only 20% should be direct "selling". Think of it this way: if your every post is "Buy! Buy! Buy!" - People will run away. If you consistently provide value and occasionally recommend a product - people will listen.
